It seems like Aamir Khan’s ‘PK’(2015) movie is not stopping from creating new records in all
time Bollywood history. Now it starts a new Rs. 100 Crore Online movie club by grossing that much of amount
only from online ticket bookings.
This proves that online booking economy of India is
growing exponentially, and it can’t be ignored in upcoming days for sure. With
the rise of online ticket booking apps like Book My Show and all, the trend for
booking movie tickets online is already a hit. So ‘PK’ grossing Rs 100 Crore
from online ticket booking isn’t surprising at all.
Currently BookMyShow is ruling the online
entertainment ticketing platform with more than 90% market share. It recently provided
a report to TOI announcing their revenue of Rs. 102 Crore only
from the bookings of Aamir Khan’s ‘PK’ movie as of 28th January.
Interesting part is that this online collection is
around 25% of ‘PK’s total collection from Indian Box Office and around 17% of its
gross worldwide collection which includes the overseas market too. Till date PK
is the most successful Bollywood film ever with revenue of 600 Crore plus
online.
BookMyShow also reported that ‘PK’ (2015) movie outclassed its nearest competitor ‘Dhoom 3’ by a
huge 50% in online ticket sales. ‘Dhoom 3’ collected Rs. 47 Crore from online
sale, while the other top grossing (online ticket sale) Bollywood movies are ‘Happy
New Year’ (36 Crore), ‘Kick’ (31 Crore) and ‘Chennai Express’ (30 Crore).
